JPJ Road Tax Renewal Checklist: Insurance, Puspakom, and Documents You Need

Step 1: Confirm Whether You Need a Puspakom Inspection First
Not every renewal needs one. You'll typically need a Puspakom inspection before renewing if:
- Your vehicle is a goods vehicle, bus, taxi, or e-hailing car (commercial-use vehicles generally require periodic inspection regardless of age).
- Your private vehicle has passed a certain age threshold set by JPJ for private-vehicle inspections.
- You've made a structural modification (engine swap, chassis change, altered seating capacity, etc.) that needs to be re-certified.

What Happens If You Miss the Renewal Date
Driving with an expired road tax is an offense that can result in a fine and, in some circumstances, your vehicle being impounded at a roadblock.
